Self - similarity of clusters of galaxies and the L X − T relation

چکیده
In this paper based on ROSAT/PSPC data we investigate the emission measure profiles of a sample of hot clusters of galaxies (kT > 3.5 keV) in order to explain the differences between observed and theoretically predicted LX–T relation. Looking at the form of the emission measure profiles as well as their normalizations we find clear indication that indeed the profiles have similar shapes once scaled to the virial radius, however, the normalization of the profiles shows a strong temperature dependence. We introduce a Mgas–T relation with the dependence Mgas ∝ T 1.94. This relationship explains the observed LX–T relation and reduces the scatter in the scaled profiles by a factor of 2 when compared to the classical scaling. We interpret this finding as strong indication that the Mgas–T relation in clusters deviates from classical scaling.

Xmm-newton Observations of Evolution of Cluster X-ray Scaling Relations At
We present a spatially-resolved analysis of the temperature and gas density profiles of galaxy clusters at z = 0.4 − 0.7 observed with XMM-Newton. These data are used to derive the total cluster mass within the radius r500 without assuming isothermality, and also to measure the average temperature and total X-ray luminosity excluding the cooling cores. We derive the high-redshift M −T and L−T r...
متن کاملCompetition between shocks and entropy floor : unifying groups and clusters of galaxies
Semi-analytic models of X-ray clusters and groups of galaxies, relying on the idea that there was a nongravitational energy injection in these systems, are able to reproduce many observed correlations, in particular the LX −T relation and the “central entropy floor” in groups. Limiting models exist which describe the behaviour of clusters and groups separately, but no analytic modeling has yet ...
متن کاملExplaining the Entropy Excess in Clusters and Groups of Galaxies without Additional Heating
The X-ray luminosity and temperature of clusters and groups of galaxies do not scale in a self-similar manner. This has often been interpreted as a sign that the intracluster medium has been substantially heated by non-gravitational sources. In this paper, we propose a simple model which, instead, uses the properties of galaxy formation to explain the available observations. Drawing on availabl...
متن کاملTracing the X - ray emitting intra - cluster medium of clusters of galaxies beyond
We present in this paper a study of a sample of 14 nearby clusters of galaxies (0.06 < z < 0.1) observed with the ROSAT/PSPC. We only select clusters with low galactic absorption (nH≤ 6 × 10 20 cm −2) in order to trace the hot X-ray emitting intra-cluster medium (ICM) out to large radii. We convert the X-ray surface brightness profiles of the clusters into emission measure profiles scaled to th...
متن کاملThe Lx −yx Relation: Using Galaxy Cluster X-ray Luminosity as a Robust, Low Scatter Mass Proxy
We use a sample of 115 galaxy clusters at 0.1 < z < 1.3 observed with Chandra ACIS-I to investigate the relation between luminosity and YX (the product of gas mass and temperature). The scatter in the relation is dominated by cluster cores, and a tight LX −YX relation (11% intrinsic scatter in LX) is recovered if sufficiently large core regions (0.15R500) are excluded. The intrinsic scatter is ...
